Article:  Is Your Love Healthy ?

Over the past few weeks, I've been conducting a 'love survey'.  I've been asking people, how they know when they're in love.  Most people talk about warm feelings they experience when they think about that special person.  Others talk about sacrifices they've made for their loved ones.  Sometimes I can detect a hint of resentment when people talk about all they've given up for love.  Warm feelings can easily turn cold when it feels like you’re giving more than you receive and loved ones are taking you for granted.

Does this mean that love sometimes fail?  No. The bible says: Love never fails! 1Corinthians 13 says, love is not self seeking, it's not easily angered, it keeps no records of wrong, it always hopes.  Love always perseveres.  In fact, as you study the entire scripture you'll discover that resentment is nothing more than unhealthy love.  Unhealthy love depends on other people to make us happy.   Healthy love causes us to take full responsibility for our feelings and to stop expecting other people to fulfill our needs.  Only GOD can supply ALL of our needs.  Yes, there are times when the  LORD will use the people around us to meet our needs, but that's simply GOD’S way of revealing HIMSELF through them.  When people are kind to us, that’s GOD’S provision.   When people take us for granted, that’s an opportunity for us to take our eyes off people and to see GOD more clearly.

So, how do you know when your love is healthy?  When your love is in good health, you will have the ability to see GOD in every situation.  Healthy love always sees GOD and love never fails!
